Addicted to Fitness Show Notes – An Interview with @loelizabethblog author Lauren Shuster

We’re back with another Thursday episode of the Addicted to Fitness podcast, which means another interview with a health & fitness pro. This week’s guest is yoga instructor, wellness blogger and world traveler Lauren Shuster.

Lauren is also a Tampa resident, which means we were able record our conversation face to face outside a local coffee shop.  Lauren and I discuss teaching yoga to toddlers, exercises you can do on a plane and her memorable trip to New Zealand.

Make sure you listen to the entire episode to hear the rest of the health & wellness topics Lauren and I explore. If you’re interested in viewing more content from Lauren,  subscribe to her newsletter at loelizabeth.com and follow her on Instagram (@loelizabethblog).

Addicted to Fitness Show Notes – Adicto a la aptitud de Mexico

Not only is this the 40th episode of Addicted to Fitness, it is the FIRST international episode of the podcast, which you may have already known if you are fluent in Spanish or curious enough to put the episode’s title into a translator on google. Shannon and I decided our trip to Mexico to attend a friend’s wedding would be an ideal environment to record a podcast. Picturesque scenery, relaxing ocean waves and all inclusive access to resort amenities both healthy and not so healthy.

Shannon and I have been running and gunning since the start of the year and this weekend gave us the opportunity to recharge our batteries. Finding moments of temporary stress relief are important to both your physical and mental health. Another practice that can be beneficial to your health is a 30 day challenge. Whether it be 30 days of progressive pushup repetitions or 30 days without dairy, these periodic challenges can help you develop sustainable healthy habits.  I love doing 30 day challenges, and you’ll hear in this episode that I celebrated the completion of 30+ days without alcohol while on the trip. I did celebrate the completion of my challenge with a drink or two, but I quickly discovered why I started the challenge in the first place. Shannon and I may have made some naughty dietary choices while on our short vacay, but we did participate in an activity that was extremely beneficial to our health.

If you’re an avid listener of the podcast, I’m sure you’ve heard me mention that I’m a big fan of massage. Well apparently Shannon heard me because she scheduled a surprise couples massage at the resort spa during our stay. Therapeutic massage is not only relaxing it can help you move more efficiently. “Tight” muscles can be painful and can create improper movement patterns that could lead to injury. If you know a qualified massage therapist and can afford regular treatments, I’d recommend doing it. Much like this trip, I think it would be money well spent.

We hope you guys enjoy this week’s international episode. If you do, please let us know by giving us a rating and review in iTunes. Addicted to Fitness Show Notes – Holiday Eating & Travel Survival Guide

This post coming at ya from Shannon.

Along with the twinkling lights and chipper holiday music, the holidays bring some health challenges for many people – food, drinks, more food, travel and visits, and seemingly less time than normal.

This all adds up to some serious challenges for keeping your health and fitness goals intact. In fact, the urge to throw your hands up and surrender to the over indulgence for the balance of the year is overwhelming tempting.

This week on the Addicted to Fitness podcast, we’re bringing you some proven tips and tricks on how to battle the food and travel obstacles.

We also get chatty about:

  • ETT news including welcoming a new client and our recent group workout recap.
  • Yoga with a Twist at the Epicurean: A meal is donated to a child in need, via Feeding Tampa Bay, for each ticket sold. Yoga hosted by Megan Blizard of the Conscious Coconut, each month.
  • Friends get the Peloton bike.

Now for those tips.

You’ll have to listen to get all the details (we use these ourselves and have truly put them to the test), but here’s a quick rundown:

  • Enjoy your holiday – Eat like it’s a holiday on the day. Then, get back to it the next day and remember your body can take a day of splurge, just don’t forget to take care of it after indulging.
  • It’s not just about what you eat, it’s also about how much you eat – Tryptophan making you tired is not exactly true, it’s your digestion working hard that’s really slowing you down.
  • Order light when you’re out – Share an entree or appetizer versus going for the full meal.
  • Pack your own snacks  when traveling – Control what you eat on the go and be prepared when your stomach starts rumbling with some healthy snacks.
  • Drink loads of water – Dehydration can lead to illness and fatigue, so be sure you’re traveling with plenty of water.
  • Plan a pre-travel workout – Specifically target this around stretching out your muscles and joints to prepare for being cramped in tight spaces while traveling.
  • Hit it hard after the feast – Once you’ve digested your food and had a good night’s sleep, tackle a kick-butt workout the next day to start burning off the excess from the day before.

Don’t forget to get in that holiday spirit!
