This week’s episode of the Addicted to Fitness podcast kicks off with a HUGE announcement regarding Shannon’s fitness. Not only is she done with her gym membership but she also took the plunge and purchased a peloton cycle. I was a little worried about the financial commitment the bike required, but once mentioned that Sofia Vergara participated in their online community, my apprehension vanished. We also reminisce about my experience training Carmin from the Mike Calta radio show because she has once again requested ETT’s help to train for an upcoming celebrity boxing event. The rest of the episode is dedicated to discussions on 2 health related news articles. The first article focuses on the legitimacy of “superfoods” and the second article discusses the recent recommended treatment for individuals with Type 2 diabetes.

Earlier in the week, my mother in law shared a podcast with me that she thought I’d enjoy. She recommended I listen to an episode of the James Altucher Show featuring Dr. Sanjiv Chopra. Dr. Chopra is a lecturer, medical professor and author of several books including The Big Five: 5 Simple Things You Can do to Live a Longer, Healthier Life. One of the five ways Dr. Chopra believes we can live a longer, healthier life is to drink coffee. I’m already a coffee devotee but I thought debating the pros and cons of coffee would be a great podcast topic. Which is why this week’s Addicted to Fitness podcast features a debate between Shannon and I on whether or not coffee is good for your health. We also go into Shannon’s desire for her very own peloton cycle, ETT doing yoga for charity and the new health craze that’s sweeping the nation, Pokemon Go. Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes and while you’re at it, give it a review why don’t ya. Just want to clarify that when I say swag, I’m not talking about swagger. We’ve had that for a while. I’m referring to the first incarnation of the ETT workout shirt. I want to send a big thank you out to my cousin Tyler for the shirt design and CustomInk for getting us the shirts before last weekend’s Mud Endeavor. I only got a small order this time around but I plan on ordering more. Would you rock an ETT shirt? What style shirt do you prefer to workout in (tank, sleeveless, etc.)?
This week is turning out to be yet another special week for ETT, and its not even half over! We started off the week with a great ETT group workout and now I’m excited to announce the addition of three new 1-on-1 personal training clients. Casey, Bryan and Denise are old school members of the ETT community that have supported ETT since it started. I’m always excited by the prospect of helping people reach their fitness goals, but when I get the opportunity to repay those who’ve supported me in the past, it adds an aspect of motivation for me personally. I love serving all the members of the ETT community, but I am always happy when I can extend special introductory benefits to those that have been on board with ETT since the beginning.
Hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July. Don’t forget to get your workout in before you woof down a bunch of hot dogs at the obligatory holiday cookout.
Personal trainers are a luxury that not everyone can take advantage of. Whether it be an issue of time, money or existing commitments, some individuals cannot justify investing in a personal trainer. That is why I wanted to make sure that a portion of the fitness resources offered by ETT can be accessed by anyone, at anytime, for free. One of the free services offered by ETT is the monthly group training sessions. We started offering these workouts in October of last year and they’ve been going strong ever since. Services like these help people realize that being fit is not some daunting task that cost a lot of money to achieve. I know some personal trainers may think I’m foolish for offering services for free, but when I read comments like the one below, it demonstrates to me that these services can be the spark plug people need for a healthier more active lifestyle.
As rewarding as offering free fitness services may be, I encourage ETT community members and non-members who want to bump up the intensity of their training or have specific fitness goals to invest in ETT’s 1-on-1 personal training. If you are interested in personal training with ETT, but need more insight into our training system, you can email me at email@example.com OR you can attend the next ETT group training session this Sunday, June 29th near Downtown Tampa. Check out the event page on Facebook for more details.
You have to be willing to give your time and effort in order to be healthy. In my opinion, both are a small price to pay to improve your quality of life. Make time for your fitness today, it’s worth it.
Welcome to the inaugural episode of the Elemental Training Tampa (ETT) exercise of the week. An ETT exercise combines striking techniques with a strength building body weight exercise. This week’s ETT exercise combines a jab-cross-hook-uppercut combination with 2 lunges. Feel free to use any punch combination, but make sure you’re practicing proper technique regardless of what strikes you perform. After the punch combination perform 2 lunges that match your fitness level. I suggest practicing your lunges in a mirror to ensure proper form. Check out the video below for more helpful tips on how to perform the ETT exercise correctly. Incorporate this exercise into your next high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout or use it as a warm-up before your next weight training session.
I never thought it would be hip to eat a dark leafy green vegetable, but I think kale has reached that status. Whether it’s a kale entrée at a trendy restaurant or a kale smoothie from Panera, it seems like you can get kale pretty much anywhere nowadays. Regardless of how trendy kale may be currently, the truth is that it’s extremely good for you. However, eating kale raw is not exactly appetizing. Check out the video below for a tasty kale & fruit smoothie recipe that will have you reaching hipster status in no time.
