What’s on the Menu

Taking a little different approach to this week’s look at what’s on my menu. Instead of highlighting a healthy food item, I’m going to tell you about a healthy endeavor that Elemental Training Tampa (ETT) will be offering this week. On Saturday, November 19th, ETT will be bringing our free monthly group workouts to the Seminole Heights neighborhood. Shannon and I are residents of Seminole Heights and we thought what better way to give back to the community we love so much than helping people improve their fitness.  The workout will incorporate basic punching & kicking techniques with complimentary strength building exercises to help you start your weekend off right. No experience is required and exercise modifications will be provided for all fitness levels. As if the workout wasn’t enticing enough, each participant will receive a 15% discount at one of Seminole Heights best coffee “shops” Spaddy’s Coffee Co. We will also be collecting non-perishable food items for ETT’s annual food drive for Metropolitan Ministries. All the details about the workout can be found on our Facebook event page. If you live in and around Seminole Heights, please come out and see what ETT has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.

An Interview with Cookbook Author Anna Vocino

I have to admit, Shannon and I were not in the best physical condition while recording this week’s Addicted to Fitness podcast. We had just returned from the One Love. One Pulse. charity yoga event. As far as charity events go, this was the most intense one we had ever been to. Two other ETT members, Adrien and Casey, joined Shannon and I as we performed nearly two hours of continuous sun salutations, and if you don’t know what a sun salutation is, please check out the video below. As physically demanding as it was, I was extremely happy that ETT was able to contribute to such a worthy cause. I was also extremely happy that the majority of this week’s episode consisted of an interview with cookbook author Anna Vocino.

Anna has wide range of expertise. She’s and actress, stand-up comedian, podcaster and cookbook author. During the interview, she explains how her Celiac disease diagnosis in 2002 lead to her creating a multitude of delicious recipes that contain little to no sugar, grains and/or gluten. We also discuss the best way to influence others to eat healthy and Anna gives out one of her favorite recipes from her cookbook Eat Happy. You can hear more from Anna on the Celebrity Fitness Trainer podcast with Vinnie Tortorich and get more of her recipes at annavocino.com. The digital version of Eat Happy will be available for purchase August 16th, but you can pre-order it today on Amazon.

The Great Coffee Debate

Earlier in the week, my mother in law shared a podcast with me that she thought I’d enjoy. She recommended I listen to an episode of the James Altucher Show featuring Dr. Sanjiv Chopra. Dr. Chopra is a lecturer, medical professor and author of several books including The Big Five: 5 Simple Things You Can do to Live a Longer, Healthier Life . One of the five ways Dr. Chopra believes we can live a longer, healthier life is to drink coffee. I’m already a coffee devotee but I thought debating the pros and cons of coffee would be a great podcast topic. Which is why this week’s Addicted to Fitness podcast features a debate between Shannon and I on whether or not coffee is good for your health. We also go into Shannon’s desire for her very own peloton cycle, ETT doing yoga for charity and the new health craze that’s sweeping the nation, Pokemon Go. Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes and while you’re at it, give it a review why don’t ya.
